Coati
Classification | Habitat | Diet |
Carnivora > Procyonidae | Forests | Omnivorous, including insects, fruits, lizards, etc. |
They are also known as "long-nosed" because of their long nose,
which they use to dig through the soil and easily find bugs hiding in it.
Their nostrils are always moist to the point of dripping
with snot to keep dirt from entering their nostrils
as they search for food in the dirt, and to get the dirt out.
A constantly runny nose is a sign of good health,
and a moist nose helps them smell better.
Coatis are great tree climbers, and their long tails help them balance as they climb,
so they do not fall off the tallest trees.
